- Sony is now utilizing AI for game and anime production.
- For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, automatic subtitling was used for different languages to increase efficiency.
- For anime production, they’ve been using motion-capture and color-grading software to support creators.
With rising game production costs and inflation, the gaming industry is rapidly adopting the use of AI in production, thereby limiting the entire cost and time required for the development process.
Sony, parent company of PlayStation, also proudly leverages the use of Artificial Intelligence. Their use is quite ethical compared to other companies, as it involves automating processes that require a significant amount of manual labor, resulting in fast-tracking game and anime production.
Why it matters: The use of AI is regarded as highly controversial in fields requiring art and creativity. However, Sony utilizes this technology to support creators instead of replacing them.
In their latest Corporate Report of 2025, Sony revealed how they leverage AI in game and anime production. Sony has been utilizing machine-learning technology to synchronize subtitles and mouth movements accurately, rather than doing it manually.
They used this tactic in 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by subtitling different languages using voice recognition software.
For anime production, they’ve developed AnimeCanvas. This software platform automates tasks such as automatic coloring and efficiency in finishing, allowing creators to shift their focus to the creative aspects of the project.
Moreover, their Mocopi software also significantly assists in motion capture by helping to track and sequence movements, hence speeding up animation work. The technology was used in the Solo Leveling anime and contributed to its success.
While this usage is primarily intended to support creators, it also carries the risk of layoffs, as companies would likely downsize. In recent times, we’ve seen big corporations like Microsoft laying off thousands of employees, with most of their work now being automated.
