Battlefield 6 Reportedly Targeting 120 FPS On The PS5 Pro Console

PS5 Pro Is Looking To Be A More Capable Console Day By Day!

Story Highlight
  • Early playtests reveal that Battlefield Labs runs at 120 FPS on the PS5 Pro.
  • Gameplay output was stable at 120 FPS with occasional drops during heavy destruction.
  • While every Battlefield Lab feature might not make it to Battlefield 6, including a 120 FPS mode suggests that DICE likely has plans for it.

Coming from such an immense failure as Battlefield 2042, DICE is returning to the drawing board and reworking some major aspects of the game. They also launched Battlefield Labs, a playtesting platform that will test new features and concepts for the upcoming Battlefield 6.

Many details for the game have been leaked through Battlefield Labs, and the most exciting one so far is the performance. It seems like Battlefield 6 will be targeting 120 FPS on the PS5 Pro console.

Why it matters: So far, only indie games have been able to target 120 FPS on consoles. The mid-gen refresh PS5 Pro hasn’t had the chance to prove its raw power, but it’s slowly beginning to, with Battlefield 6 becoming a huge benchmark for the console.

One of the playtesters from Battlefield Labs has contacted MP1st to confirm that Battlefield 6 runs around 100-110 FPS even with destruction. The lowest dip was to the mid-80s, which was noticed just briefly.

However, Battlefield ran on 120FPS consistently for the most part, unless there was clutter and destruction elements on the screen. Frame dips were also quite rare, and the gameplay from the said footage ran with VRR enabled.

For reference, Battlefield 2042 doesn’t have a 120 FPS mode for either of the current-gen consoles.

Battlefield 6 will be entirely different from Battlefield Labs, and EA will remove many features and elements from the final product as they see fit. As such, there’s a possibility that the 120 FPS mode might not make it to the final release.

Still, adding such a huge gameplay mode and removing it from the final release wouldn’t make sense. Moreover, the PS5 Pro is certainly capable of such an output, combined with the PSSR technology.
