What RDR2 Features I Expect To Be Present In GTA VI

Expert Verified By

Highly responsive NPCs with interesting lives, customization of each part of a gun, using clothing based on the weather and season, growing of the hair over time...

Story Highlights
  • GTA VI should learn from RDR2’s insanely detailed lives of NPCs, where NPCs respond to your behaviors and actions.
  • The ability to fully customize each part of the weapons and customize characters based on weather and season should be taken from RDR2.
  • Hair growth over time, inventory system for weaponry, and dynamic weather that impacts the vehicle’s mechanics should also be added.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has set a new standard for open-world realism, immersing players in a world that blurs the lines between the virtual and real. Despite being over six years old, not many games have managed to come close to it.

RDR2 Features Are Still Advanced

Since Rockstar is behind this game, they should take inspiration from it for its upcoming GTA VI since Red Dead Redemption 2 had features that were way ahead of its time, which, even today, feels highly advanced.

NPCs Leading Interesting Lives

One of Red Dead Redemption 2’s key features is its lively NPCs. They aren’t the standard bots that are programmed only to walk and interact with you when you come close to them, but they lead interesting lives.

They have a routine and a schedule. For instance, a farmer wakes up, grabs the newspaper, picks up the buckets, goes to fill them up, and then pours the water for their goats. Then, they complete their jobs and go back home to sleep.

They all have some work to do and don’t feel lifeless. These behaviours make the game incredibly immersive, and some players have spent a long time only observing these NPCs because of how insanely detailed their routines are.

Highly Responsive NPCs

Not only that, but the NPCs conversed with your character just like people do in real life. Players who’ve replayed RDR2 several times still take the time to interact with the NPCs because of how realistic they behave and respond to your actions.

I expect GTA VI to have the same level of detail, if not more, for the NPC to make the world feel more lively. Sure enough, Rockstar is rumoured to feature extremely detailed NPCs as well, according to Take-Two’s NPC AI Patent.

Realistic Graphics

Indeed, RDR2’s realistic graphics have set its standard in gaming. But I expect GTA VI to be way more realistic than Rockstar’s previous titles, given that a former Rockstar developer stated that GTA VI’s realism would “blow people away.”

Outfits To Suit The Weather & Season

Another area where RDR2 shined was its character customizations. In RDR2, depending on the season, location, and weather, you must keep up with your dress yourself or accordingly. This also affected some of the game’s mechanics.

This needs to be implemented in GTA VI as well. It would be great if our character were prone to move slowly due to soaked fabrics. In contrast, dressing too warmly in Vice City heat could reduce stamina or increase discomfort.

Customize Each Part Of A Weapon

Alongside character customizations, detailed weapons customization from RDR2 should also be considered in GTA VI. While GTA V allowed you to customize weapons, every weapon felt the same due to the lack of detail.

Meanwhile, RDR2 allowed players to customize each part of the gun. For instance, you could paint the barrel, the stock, and the nozzle all in a separate color. Each customization felt unique and personal, so GTA VI should inherit this feature.

Inventory System

Speaking of weapons, GTA VI should implement the inventory feature like in RDR2. I expect players to sling rifles to their backs, manage which weapons to keep, and utilize their vehicles for additional storage.

Besides vehicles, there should be briefcases or other containers to hold other weaponry you can carry around. This would add to the immersion while being practical for players since no one wants to have only two weapons simultaneously.

Side Missions

Another major aspect of RDR2 was its side quests. GTA V had tedious tow trucking missions, collecting quests, and bounty side missions, but these don’t come close to RDR2’s hunt for the gunslinger, dinosaur bones, and bounty quests.

GTA 6 desperately needs good side content. Even GTA 4 had great side missions like drug deals and assassinations, so GTA 6 should go above and beyond in adding these side quests, which would undoubtedly add to the game’s immersion.

Dynamic Weather System

Next, dynamic weather should be added to GTA VI. While there are rumors that GTA VI will feature hurricanes and storms, I’m expecting this rumor to come to life, as it also impacts the vehicle’s mechanics.

It would be great to have heavy storms causing reduced visibility, which should impact driving, making the vehicles skid and slip depending on the type of your vehicle.

Hair Growth Over Time

A minor feature in Red Dead Redemption 2 was hair growth. Over time, your character had hair grown, which needed grooming. A leak suggests that this feature would be carried over in GTA 6, and I’m all up for it.
