- Rocksteady is rumored to be working on a new single-player Batman Beyond game.
- Once my most-awaited game, now I don’t want to see Batman Beyond ruined by Rocksteady.
- After losing its vital members and the abomination that is Suicide Squad, Rocksteady isn’t the same anymore.
Since I was a kid, Batman has been one of my favorite fictional characters. I know it’s somewhat cliched, but I’m not ashamed to be a part of this cult. Batman is superb, and I don’t care what anyone says. As such, I love the Dark Knight’s video games.
The day I came across the disc of Batman: Vengeance for the PS2 was when it all began. Out of the many superhero games I’ve played, there’s little that matches Batman. After the Arkham series, I wanted a Batman Beyond game the most, but now, I dread the thought.
Why it matters: With the Batman Arkham series, Rocksteady created a true gem, but that Rocksteady is no longer around, which means Batman Beyond is in danger.
The Unrivaled Batman Arkham Series
Before I delve into the Batman Beyond matter and all the present doom and gloom, let me take a moment of peace and reminisce about the glorious times of the Batman Arkham series. It is superhero gaming at its peak.
Coming from Batman: Vengeance and Rise of Sin Tzu to Arkham Asylum was an unimaginable leap. I sat there in awe, fanboying like crazy when the intro to Arkham Asylum started one hell of a journey. A Batman game that mechanically advanced was something out of a fantasy.
The dream kept on getting better when arguably the best sequel in gaming history came in the form of Arkham City. Everything from the improved combat, the stronger open world, the iconic plotline, and the kick-ass Batman characterization was perfect.
Batman Arkham City: Una secuela impresionante.

Next was Arkham Origins, which many call an outlier, but for me, it was as Arkham as it gets. I don’t get the hate. The less-mature Dark Knight and the superb boss fights are a true treat. Finally, Arkham Knight is the mechanical peak of the series. No superhero game comes close to the Arkham Knight gameplay for me.
Rocksteady Is A Shell Of Its Former Self
Just thinking about those glorious times makes me want to do a full replay. Putting that aside, all I ever wanted after Arkham Knight was a Batman Beyond game. Like Spider-Man 2099, I absolutely love Batman Beyond. The futuristic take is one of my favorite concepts.
Considering how superb the Arkham series was, the mere thought of a Batman Beyond game gave the past me chills. Unfortunately, this is the point where the sweet dream ends.
I'm starting to miss the ol' Rocksteady..

After Arkham Knight, it was all downhill. First, WB’s excessive involvement and no Rocksteady led to the mediocre Gotham Knights. It was apparent this was like a live-service game later modified, and as I expected, I was spot on. Later came Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and all my fears became a reality.
It was a worldwide shock that the same Rocksteady responsible for the Arkham series created this abomination. It was all but inevitable after all, since Rocksteady’s dedicated creators left their studio, and all the major talent also departed. With Rocksteady an empty shell and WB in control, it was only a matter of time before chaos ensued.
A Butchered Batman Beyond Game Is My Nightmare
After the Arkham series established a superb characterization of Batman, Suicide Squad crushed that legacy into pieces. I still can’t fathom the insulting treatment of the Caped Crusader it presented. With Rocksteady’s talent long gone and the total mess that is Suicide Squad, I’ve convinced myself that the chapter is closed.
Unfortunately, it seems that WB doesn’t want to close it, and instead capitalize as much as possible. A very promising leak has surfaced lately that Rocksteady is working on a single-player Batman Beyond game, and I have nothing but extreme anxiety.
Batman Beyond is my personal favorite and one of my most anticipated games, but that was before Rocksteady fell from grace. After Suicide Squad, I shudder to think just how much of a mess this one will be. I’d rather it doesn’t happen at all than be absolutely ruined by the current Rocksteady.
You get my fears, right? If this were Rocksteady at its peak, I would be celebrating. But I know full well that Rocksteady is not the same it once was, and the existence of Suicide Squad is a constant reminder of the nightmare. Yes, it’s a single-player game this time, but the worst-case scenario frightens me.
