- Dragon Age: The Veilguard has faced a lot of heat from the fandom, leading to an underwhelming launch.
- As per an insider, BioWare was expecting the title to sell over 10 million copies in 3 months.
- However, it has been nearly two months, and according to the same insider, the game has only sold less than 1.5 million copies.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard was one of the most hyped games of the year, but the hype went down pretty quickly. The game has many DEI elements, which the majority of the gaming community doesn’t like.
The game even has a cutscene explaining how to apologize for misgendering someone. Many such instances killed the title’s hype, and BioWare refused to share its official sales figures.
However, an insider recently revealed that the latest Dragon Age title has sold less than 1.5 million copies in almost two months, while the developer was expecting it to sell 10 million copies in three months.
Why it matters: Dragon Age: The Veilguard was in development for almost a decade, meaning it took a plethora of resources to develop, so much fewer sales would not be enough to recoup the development cost.
Smash JT on YouTube has been reporting on many games for a while now, and he seems to have some sources that give him various insider information. He recently revealed that The Veilguard has underperformed way too much.
Insiders contacting me telling me that has sold under 1.5 million copies in over two months of launch time out of the expected 10 million sales in the first three months.

If this is true, then BioWare was expecting the game to sell 10 million copies in its first three months, which shows how badly it has underperformed. BioWare seems to have set its expectations way too high, as the game didn’t even manage to meet 20% of the sales target. This explains why the developer didn’t want to give an update on the sales figure.
A major poll previously revealed that over 90% of the players weren’t happy with the game. Following that, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was discounted by 30% on various platforms.
The studio is well aware of the title’s failure, as its director just recently blamed the hate campaign for Veilguard’s failure. This further backs up the insider’s claim.
It should also be noted that Sylvia Feketekuty, a veteran employee who has been working with BioWare for over 15 years, has also left, along with some other big names.
