Horizon Has Its Own Palworld Now!

Story Highlight
  • Tencent recently announced a Horizon Zero Dawn clone.
  • Light of Motiram uses the same concept and adds the twist of online co-op.
  • This could be a problem for PlayStation since the gaming giant is working on the same concept for its series.

Tencent has just announced a brand new game, further expanding its influence in the gaming industry. Light of Motiram takes players to an open world full of mechanized beasts, and if that sounds similar to an existing AAA IP, it’s because that’s exactly what Tencent’s latest project is.

The upcoming game takes more than a few inspirations from PlayStation’s Horizon IP, leading to a scenario where Light of Motiram will be to Horizon Zero Dawn what Palworld was to Pokemon.

Why it matters: Clones in the gaming industry are far from new, but they can sometimes find unprecedented levels of success, threatening the original IP.

Looking at the trailer, the influence of the Horizon is immediately clear. Even the thumbnail is oddly reminiscent of the cover art used in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

To its credit, Light of Motiram offers online gameplay, something that is not currently part of PlayStation’s series. This gives it an element of originality, much like Palworld took the Pokemon formula and placed it in an online environment.

Still, this is anything but good news for PlayStation. The gaming giant is currently working on a live-service project based on the Horizon franchise, and the success of Light of Motiram could prove to be a major hurdle in these plans.

Moreover, Light of Motiram being the first to debut this concept could keep players away from Horizon’s eventual foray into the live service industry.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Was Released Earlier This Year

Tencent has yet to announce a release date for the title, but multiple other details have been shared.

The game appears to focus on crafting elements and hard-hitting melee combatas opposed to Horizon’s ranged combat, which relies on bows and arrows. Co-op of up to 10 players has also been confirmed, in addition to cross-play.

Since Nintendo recently sued Palworld developers for infringing on its IP, it will be interesting to see if PlayStation does the same. The gaming giant has many plans for Horizon and shows no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

What are your thoughts on Light of Motiram? Do you think it will find the the same success as PlayStation’s flagship IP? Let’s discuss this in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
