- Chinese FPS Delta Force devs have clarified that they don’t see other shooters as competition, especially Call of Duty.
- The simple reason behind the laid-back approach is that Delta Force has significantly different gameplay than a traditional FPS.
- The game wants to provide a fun and fresh FPS experience that challenges the players’ tactical minds.
The Chinese AAA gaming industry has slowly and steadily been on the rise, only ramping up its presence in recent years. So, it is always exciting to see new breath-taking Chinese games taking on the established Western counterparts in popular genres. The new Delta Force game—helmed by the Chinese dev Team Jade—is aiming to be one such title, but it does not even see Call of Duty as competition.
The series is returning after 13 years of silence, and now the devs claim that other shooters in the industry are not a challenge for them at all.
Why it matters: Delta Force not seeing COD as a challenge has gained the interest of many gamers in the community. Some find it a bold move, while others have appreciated the nuanced and laid-back approach behind the decision.
In an interview with Video Gamer, Delta Force design director Ricky Liao explains that the FPS aims to be a ‘fun and fresh experience’ vastly different from the COD series. So, it doesn’t see the established FPS giants in the industry as competition.
We don’t see other shooters as our competitors, especially CoD. When you look at the kind of gameplay experiences you see in Delta Force, it’s actually very different from your typical CoD experience.
This is not the first time Delta Force has been compared with popular FPS titles in the community. Many have also dubbed it a Battlefield killer due to its heavy inspiration and similarities with the franchise.
Delta Force will launch on December 5th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and mobile platforms.
