Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Ubisoft Rejected Historically Accurate Pitch For ‘Progressive’ Narrative

“So Glad I’m Not In That Industry Anymore!” Ex Ubisoft Contractor

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already become a highly controversial game.
  • The main reasons for all the hate are the game’s main characters.
  • A former Ubisoft contractor has revealed that his pitch, which was more historically accurate from over a decade ago, was rejected.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a game Ubisoft has so much high hopes for, is already controversial just after the first trailer. The game is being called woke due to Yasuke, and the Japanese fandom has also shown their anger.

According to the Japanese fandom, there are many better picks instead of Yasuke, which led them to flood the trailer with dislikes on YouTube. Now, it has been alleged that Ubisoft rejected the pitch for a historically accurate Feudal Japan-era narrative. Instead, the giant went with a more progressive narrative.

Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set in Japan, so it is fair for the game to have a deep and accurate lore of that country.

An EX Contractor of Ubisoft, InfinitaleComic, on Twitter/X, has revealed some information about the original story for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed. He revealed that a decade ago, he worked on narrative elements for the Sengoku Era of Japan for Assassin’s Creed

“I guess they tossed all that out for Black Samurai and some canon-destroying Kunoichi-boss?”

The former contractor revealed his main pitch in detail on Twitter. The story focused on a monk named Yamauchi Taka, and the conflict was about The Sword of Eden. It was about how Oda Nobunaga had an unfair advantage in the era as he wielded this sword.

For reference, The Sword of Eden, known as Excalibur, has huge significance in Japan, and it was wielded by Genghis Khan before.

We won’t have a complete description of his pitch, but it seems like some big names from history were added to this story. This would have been more exciting for the Japanese folks as well as for those who take an interest in history.

It should be noted that he pitched this whole idea over a decade ago to Ubisoft, and it was independently verified. That said, the gaming giant has gone in the opposite direction, featuring the protagonists who fans are calling out.

Yasuke is being called out the most, as many claim him to be a fraud. Due to this, the one who originally pitched the whole idea over a decade ago reveals that he is glad not to be a part of the industry anymore.

Ubisoft is likely to get more backlash for this, as fans are not happy. However, it doesn’t seem this is hurting the sales of the game, as a reliable insider has revealed that the pre-orders are going strong, and Ubisoft is satisfied so far.
