Skipping Again After 2022!

Gamescom 2023 is set to be held on August 23. Like in previous years, many gaming companies will participate in the event to show their upcoming games. However, it looks like one of the biggest industry giants will not be present at Gamescom in 2023.

Sony is reportedly skipping the event and will not attend Gamescom 2023. While Sony had a great time with the event in the past, the gaming giant is skipping the event for the second time in a row, as Sony did not attend the show in 2022 either.

Why it Matters: PlayStation has huge first-party games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Stellar Blade announced for 2023, and Gamescom would have provided the gaming giant an excellent opportunity to showcase these titles.

Sony's PlayStation Event

The German website Gamesmarkt reported that Sony would not attend Gamescom. Though third parties will likely bring demos for the PS5 console, PlayStation-first-party titles are unlikely to make an appearance.

This also means that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will not be featured at the event. Previously, it was claimed that PlayStation would begin a huge marketing push for the game in August, but plans may have changed.

Sony might hold another State of Play during August, but it looks like Gamescom is not a huge event for PlayStation moving forward.

This also suggests the company may continue to skip the event in the coming years. Still, fans can expect a few small announcements from Sony. The gaming giant previously revealed the DualSense Edge at Gamescom Opening Night Live in 2022.
