The Witcher Project Sirius Team Facing Layoffs

Following A New Direction For Project Sirius!

CD Projekt Red is currently working on multiple games in the Witcher universe. In addition to a mainline game, this also includes spin-offs like Project Sirius from The Molasses Flood.

However, Project Sirius has faced a problematic development, and a recent report confirms that as many as 29 developers from the Molasses Flood have been laid off.

Why it matters: Multiple studios have recently faced layoffs, and this has also led to fans being worried about the Witcher spin-off game.

Following the layoffs, many developers took to Twitter, discussing their departure from the studio.

According to CD Projekt Red, this is a consequence of the recent shift in direction of the project. While little was known about Project Sirius, previous job listings hinted the game would include co-op and pve elements.

The new direction could mean that CD Projekt Red has decided to work on a traditional single-player game instead or a different kind of multiplayer experience. Nonetheless, the developer has not said much about the future of Project Sirius.

With the increasing costs and time of game development, developers are under more pressure than ever before to deliver. Unfortunately, this does not always happen, and a failed project can often lead to layoffs.

Recently, PlayStation partner Deviation Games also faced various layoffs. Prior to this, Microsoft studios, like 343 Industries, faced a similar issue. The Molasses Flood is the latest developer to go through this problem, but we hope the developers can quickly find work at other studios to utilize their skills and talents.
