Nintendo Switch: No Plans To Reduce Console Prices This Year

Expert Verified By

Don't Expect Lower Prices!

The Nintendo Switch is a renowned hybrid gaming console. It comes with various remarkable first-party games such as Super Mario Odyssey and more. Compared to its rivals, the Nintendo Switch is also the cheapest option on the market.

However, the hardware is over six years old, and many have been curious about a potential price cut to reach an even broader audience. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently addressed these concerns, clarifying that no price cuts are currently planned for the Nintendo Switch.

Why it matters: Traditionally, gaming consoles have seen a price reduction as they get older. However, current economic conditions and inflation have made this harder for gaming companies.

The Nintendo President said:

“Currently, there are no plans to reduce the price of our hardware during this fiscal year.”

However, the President also confirmed that prices will not rise. Previously, consoles like the PS5 have seen a price hike in various regions, but this does not seem to be the case for Nintendo.

Looking at the consoles, Nintendo already offers a lower-priced variant with the Nintendo Switch Lite for $200. As such, the company may have felt that a further price reduction is not needed.

Moreover, the Nintendo President only talked about plans for this fiscal year. This could mean that price reductions may happen after March 2024. New Nintendo hardware is also expected to release soon, which could be an excellent opportunity to lower prices.

Following the overwhelmingly positive reviews of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, Nintendo continues to do well in the gaming industry. While the lack of price cuts may be disappointing for some fans, it should have no significant impact on the current success of the hybrid gaming console.
