79% Of Game Developers Like AI In Gaming, Only 5% Are Fearing Its Affects

Expert Verified By

The Era of Generative AI in Games is Upon Us.

Story Highlight
  • Most developers are excited to work with AI, and 79% feel positive about its inclusion.
  • Only about 5% of the 300 developers polled were apprehensive of AI usage in gaming.
  • Developers think AI will save time by making bug detention, localization, and translation faster.

Whatever industry you talk about nowadays, AI is a topic of contention. Most players fear the knockoff effects the technology will have in the gaming world, with many thinking it will kill creativity. But, even with the negative press around it, companies like Sony and Xbox use it to improve player experience in many ways.

And, from the looks of it, most developers making the games we play aren’t very apprehensive about a future with AI; many are looking forward to using it to create new games.

Why it matters: The use of AI for creative tasks like concept art is worrying for the future of gaming.

Data from the Unity report

According to a new report from Unity, about 79% of developers feel “somewhat positive” about a gaming industry with AI as an essential component. The polled data shows that most developers think the technology will have a positive impact on the industry, with about one-third of the participants feeling “extremely positive” about its use in video games.

The worry generative AI created when it first emerged has seemingly passed, as only 5% of the 300 developers polled were apprehensive of AI in gaming. Unity interviewed a developer from Cyprus-based studio Pixonic, who stated that AI tools will save a lot of resources and time by simplifying playtesting, localization, and automating bug detection.

The developer also mentioned that concept art could be created through AI, which is worrying considering how the process has always relied on human creativity and serves as a basis for the final product. The use of AI tools in 2025 has stayed consistent in the gaming industry, with their utilization carrying a steady rate from 2024.

ARK DLC AI feat
ARK’s DLC trailer just got severe fan backlash for using AI.

To add more fuel to the fire, only about 4% of developers stated that they would not use AI tools in any capacity for game development. This is a frighteningly low number and a stark contrast to previous backlash on AI from devs and players.
