The Future Of MindsEye And Its Devs Looks Quite Grim!

Story Highlight
  • A new report suggests that over 100 MindsEye developers could be laid off soon following the game’s messy launch.
  • The title failed to meet sales and rating expectations due to bugs and a mediocre story, suggesting the studio has a grim future ahead.
  • It’s now unclear whether MindsEye will receive the post-launch updates that have been revealed, judging from this report.

When MindsEye was first revealed by Leslie Benzies, the ex-Rockstar North boss and GTA producer, the hype quickly shot through the roof. However, the aftermath of all that anticipation has turned out to be an utter disaster, and most of the team behind it could be at risk.

A new report reveals that processes for a mass layoff have already begun behind the scenes at Build A Rocket Boy studio after the game flopped. Now, as many as 100 developers or more could be dismissed soon, as everyone’s morale continues to degrade.

Why it matters: The poor reception of MindsEye initiating the layoff process suggests that the studio’s plan to expand the franchise through episodic and player-driven content may not come true after all, let alone post-launch updates to fix the game.

Mindseye is filled to the brim with glitches and extremely poor optimization.

The report by IGN confirms that an anonymous developer reached out to say that a standard 45-day consultation process has started, which only happens when layoffs of over 100 are proposed within 3 months in the UK.

Therefore, now the developers are worried about whether they will be dismissed or not. Previously, MindsEye studio co-CEO allegedly described the developers as lazy and incompetent, and past Glassdoor reviews also highlighted that the studio is a ‘terrible’ place to work.

On the flip side, there are also concerns that MindsEye may no longer receive the post-launch updates that were promised.

MinsEye Everywhere Build A Rocket Boy
MindsEye was the main concept behind the studio’s Everywhere project.

MindsEye is supposed to receive support for the next decade with new content. However, all these claims now appear more unlikely by the day.

MindsEye performed so poorly after launch that PlayStation was quick to offer refunds, as fans dubbed it another Cyberpunk 2077-like situation. So, these layoffs were rumored to be just a matter of time by the community.

Do you think MindsEye flopping upon launch will jeopardize the careers of many developers behind it, or will the studio manage to turn things around via updates? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
