"That's Where The Real Innovation Is Happening"

Story Highlight
  • Pocketpair doesn’t seem to like the trend of AAA games relying on live service.
  • A Palworld developer suggests that indie and AA games are the most innovative right now.
  • He has asked fans to try out more indie games instead of sticking with the same AAA titles.

Palworld suddenly appeared this year and shocked the world by breaking many records. Despite being cheap and costing a fraction of most AAA titles, the game made billions in profit.

Pocketpair has also recently shared its thoughts on the difference between AA/indie and AAA games. After stating that fans should branch out from live-service games, the developer is now asking fans to give indie games more of a chance over AAA releases.

Why it matters: AAA games nowadays are filled with live service elements and battle passes. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed is a prime example.

Palworld Shocked The World By Breaking Many Records On Steam

John Buckley, the Palworld community manager, has said in a Twitter post that fans should explore more indie games instead of sticking to their favorite AAA titles. He states that fans won’t regret this decision.

Play indies. Dig through Steam. Forego the latest battle pass in your favourite AAA game and use that money to buy a couple of cool indies instead.

Buckley reveals that he tries to play as many games as possible but spends most of his time in the indie industry. He believes that this is where true innovation lies.

Indie-Games
Most Indie Games Are Extremely Underrated Due To Massive Focus On AAA Games

While he isn’t against playing AAA games, the community manager thinks indie games are a better choice as they take much less time and are innovative. Buckley makes a solid point, but there are still many AAA releases that feature strong narratives without live service elements.

He said that Steam has a massive library of games, and many of them go unnoticed by the average person. According to him, many indie titles on Steam are arguably on par with some of the best AAA games, and we completely agree with this.

However, gamers tend to play AAA games more, so the community manager has admitted that asking them to try indies isn’t realistic. At the end of the day, both types of games can offer a great experience.

Still, if you have never tried an indie game, perhaps this is the hint that you need to finally take the plunge.
