Why Every Game in 2025 Needs DLSS or FSR

Why is DLSS and FSR Important?

Story Highlights

  • AI upscaling to boost graphical quality and performance has become very common these days.
  • Having support for this software allows for wide accessibility on different hardware, both old and new.
  • To cope with the high graphics requirements these software’s can be a major help.

As games progress, they require more computational power and stronger hardware to run. One thing that all gamers yearn for is good graphics and FPS. However, as games have become more advanced it has become harder for even the latest GPUs to keep up with their high demands.

Modern games now require DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) to ensure proper running and performance of even the heaviest of titles.

What are DLSS and FSR?

DLSS is a software that was brought to existence by NVIDIA. DLSS software boosts a games visual quality and performance by making use of AI upscaling methods. It makes the game seem as if it was rendered in high resolution.

On the other hand, FSR is a similar software from AMD. This software makes use of special upscaling and frame generation techniques without using any AI. FSR works on a wide variety of hardware making it an excellent choice for developers and gamers alike.

Both software’s lessen the strain on your GPU. Both FSR and DLSS allow for crisp visuals with minimal energy consumption. They allow players to have a feel of ultra-HD graphics without them needing to purchase heavy hardware. Both act as background support for your GPU and by working hand in hand they can provide a stunning experience.

Games Now Demand More

Hardware these days is being pushed to the limit by modern games. These games demand high graphics with realistic lighting and fast open world rendering such as seen in Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield. Even the heaviest of hardware may fall short when running games at 4k with raytracing on. This may cause a drop in frame rates which none of us like.

Now this is where DLSS and FSR come into play. They help regain your frame rate by making use of upscaling and frame generation techniques. Old hardware? no problem! because these tools let players enjoy high resolution gaming on mid-range or even old hardware. This helps make new game titles accessible to a wider audience and helps sell more copies.

Improvements in Upscaling Tech

NVIDIA’s DLSS has gone through several updates. Currently, we are on DLSS 3.5, which has a frame generation feature. What this means is that the system can generate new frames in between existing ones, helping to boost performance. Think of it as the software filling the gaps that the hardware had left behind.

DLSS and FSR are no longer just features; they allow smart rendering. Instead of making hardware more powerful, gamers and developers can simply utilize these software’s to upscale the graphical quality of games.

What these software’s do is that they create the illusion of high-quality graphics without demanding too much from the GPU. This helps reduce the energy consumed and heat generated and helps your overall system to last significantly longer. Instead of overclocking your hardware you can now simply use these.

FSR has also improved with its latest version, FSR 3, including its version of frame rate generation. As it works on almost all modern GPUs, it gives developers an easy way to support more players.

Multi-Platform Support and Easy to Use

These software’s help both developers and gamers. FSR works on most GPUs including AMD, NVIDIA and Intel products. DLSS however, is bound to NVIDIAs RTX series but still manages to cover a large portion of the gaming market.

A few years ago, incorporating these software’s into games was hard. But now both software’s are supported by many companies and games acting as a means to better quality.

Why are They a Must?

To boost immersion in games developers, use better visuals. This may take too much out of your hardware, so DLSS and FSR act as support. In 2025 there is absolutely no need for games to not incorporate these software’s as they help improve the frame rate quality of games significantly.

Games that do not implement these features are at a disadvantage as gamers want options. They want the ability to max out their games’ graphics without putting too much strain on their hardware.
