- The official US Govt funded Sweet Baby Inc. with over $300k during 2020-2021.
- The funds aimed to keep the consultation group maintain their workforce during the pandemic.
- Despite significant support and industry promotion, Sweet Baby Inc. has faced criticism for its impact on games and is now encountering pushback from publishers.
According to USAspending, the official US website tracking government expenditures, Sweet Baby Inc. received over $300K. The funds were allocated to maintain its workforce during the pandemic.
Why it matters: In the past, Sweet Baby Inc.’s forceful narratives have not been taken kindly by gamers, implying that the DEI elements are unnecessary. Despite that, the consulting group has been pushed by investors and now the US government.
A payment of $170,974.03 was first made in 2020, and another of $134,324.68 was made later in 2021. The consultation group was still quite new at the time, as it was first formed in 2018.
In the past, gamers have critiqued their lack of originality towards video games, partially contributing to their failures as well. As a result, many publishers have ended their contracts and partnerships with Sweet Baby Inc. due to recent controversies.
Even their latest project was an utter failure, which also caused several developers to lose their jobs.
Despite all this backlash and boycott, Sweet Baby Inc. is still prevalent in the gaming industry. They’ve now hidden the clients they’re working with on their website. However, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one well-known game that will be influenced by the consulting group.
