Story Highlight
  • The Steam Machine is still planning to launch in the first-half of 2026, as per Valve.
  • The company admitted that the memory crisis has made them re-evaluate the release date and cost of the console.
  • Moreover, the Steam Machine will run most of the new and demanding titles at 4K 60 FPS due to FSR.

Despite the initial anticipation, the hype around the Steam Machine has been impacted by the memory crisis, with analysts claiming that the console will be delayed and priced higher than what consumers expected.

Some have predicted that Valve could be forced to put a $700 price tag on the Steam Machine due to the constraints of growing RAM prices. Now, the company has come out to confirm that the PC-console hybrid will launch as planned, but the cost is still a mystery.

Why It Matters: Valve taking its time to announce the price point of the Steam Machine is the best move, as the memory shortages are very unpredictable right now.

In a new Steam Hardware Blog post, Valve revealed that its intention to launch the Steam Machine in the first half of 2026 hasn’t changed despite the growing prices of essential components.

The company stated that it was planning to disclose the cost and launch date of the console by now. However, the memory shortage has forced Valve to re-evaluate the price of the Steam Machine and its shipping schedule.

Furthermore, the blog explained that there is still work to do before the company can announce the price tag and release date of the Steam Machine, as the conditions of the market can change very quickly.

Regardless, Valve did feed fans some information about the console’s performance. Most of the new and more demanding games will run at 4K 60FPS with FSR on the Steam Machine, while some other titles will require a bit of upscaling, but the blog suggests playing them at a lower frame rate is preferable to maintain the 1080p resolution.
