  • Sekiro: No Defeat anime adaptation of the iconic Souls game has been announced.
  • The anime will adapt Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’s story and seems to expand on it.
  • Sekiro: No Defeat will air in 2026 exclusively on Crunchyroll.

What started as a side project by FromSoftware games while they worked on Elden Ring, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice became one of the best Souls games to date. Despite being on a smaller scale compared to the rest of the games in its genre, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice remains a fan favorite.

Building on the success of the game, an anime adaptation of the title has now been revealed, titled ‘Sekiro: No Defeat’.

Why it matters: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has some of the best source material and so much potential beyond just a game. As such, the anime will explore its lore beyond the game, which felt constricted.

Revealed at Gamescom, Sekiro: No Defeat trailer opens up with Sekiro escorting Princess Kuro out of the castle when he comes across Genichiro. From the tidbits of the trailer, it seems like the anime will directly adapt the storyline of the game.

A short glimpse of several boss battles is also showcased in the trailer, including Lady Butterfly, Gyoubu, and more. Moreover, iconic moves from Sekiro, including parry attacks to spears, are also animated for the show.

Three members from the game’s main cast are also set to reprise their roles, including Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf, Miyuki Satou as Lady Kuro, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina.

Moreover, the anime also seems to hint a more complex and deep-dive relation between Sekiro and Lady Kuro. Given the game’s smaller budget, narrative wasn’t the primary focus, despite its considerable potential.

The art style seems to be quite good, and so does the animation, matching the aesthetics of a Souls game. Currently, the anime has a release date of 2026 and will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll.
