24% Improvement Over The RTX 4080 Laptop!

Story Highlight
  • NVIDIA is set to launch its RTX 50 laptop series next month officially.
  • The GeForce RTX 5080 laptop has been benchmarked with a score of 21,948 points, showing a 24% improvement over the RTX 4080 laptop.
  • While the RTX 5080 laptop offers performance close to the RTX 4090 laptop, it doesn’t show significant improvements over its predecessor on the desktop.

The official launch of RTX 50 laptops is scheduled for next month. While NVIDIA has not disclosed which SKUs will be included in the initial release, AMD and Intel are expected to pair the GeForce RTX 50 mobile series with their H-Series and HX-Series processors.

Why it matters: The laptop variant of the GeForce RTX 50 series offers a significant performance boost, with the RTX 5080 outperforming the RTX 4080 by 24%, closing the performance gap between laptops and desktops.

The GeForce RTX 5080 mobile variant was recently tested in the OpenCL benchmark by Top Player on Bilibili. The laptop with the GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card receives 21,948 points, while the GeForce RTX 4080 laptop averages 17,601 points, a 24% improvement.

The main reason the GeForce RTX 5080 isn’t significantly faster than its predecessor on the desktop is that their raw specifications aren’t all that different. On the laptop front, however, we should anticipate better performance.

You get a laptop with performance close to RTX 4090. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for desktops. Although the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 4080 laptop models have the same amount of CUDA cores, the new 5080 mobile will come with 16 GB of GDDR7 rather than 12 GB of GDDR6X.
