Capcom Is Catering To Both Types Of Players!

Story Highlight
  • The producer of Resident Evil Requiem, Masato Kumazawa, teases that both the first and third-person perspectives are unique.
  • These camera modes will feel like separate games due to the extensive work that has gone into preserving immersion.
  • The developers have done delicate work to ensure gamers playing using either mode will feel fear.

Resident Evil Requiem has been in development for many years, so the anticipation is now through the roof. Capcom is also making sure to make the horror entry stand out by catering to the biggest audience possible.

The producer of Resident Evil Requiem, Masato Kumazawa, has now clarified that the game’s third-person perspective is not just another prototype or a simple mode. Instead, he teases that both the camera POVs will feel like ‘two separate games in parallel.’

Why it matters: These remarks confirm that Capcom has not cut any corners with Resident Evil Requiem. The studio has invested a significant amount of work into balancing the two camera perspectives.

Resident Evil Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem went through many iterations during development.

In an interview with the PlayStation Blog, Masato elaborates that camera perspectives—especially in the survival horror genre—are way more complex than a simple toggle. So, Capcom has made ‘delicate adjustments’ to both modes to evoke fear in players.

There are significant differences between first-person and third-person perspectives. […] It’s essentially like developing two separate games in parallel.

The differences between camera modes affect character models, animations, UI, sound design, and much more. Masato elaborates that players will not grow accustomed to the fear during gameplaybut will stay on edge throughout the ordeal, regardless of the camera mode used.

The technical and visual prowess of the RE Engine has also evolved over the years. Masato says that gamers can spot differences in the new footage, such as ‘sweat trickling down Grace’s skin, the delicate texture of her hair, and the subtle trembling of her lips.’

Resident Evil Requiem features Grace Ashcroft as the new protagonist.

On a side note, Capcom clarified that Leon is not the main protagonist because he is too experienced for horror. The game is set to launch somewhere in February next year.

Do you think Resident Evil Requiem will deliver the same amount of horror in both camera perspectives, or does first-person mode remain the authentic way to play for you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
