Sony Even Provides A Link To Xbox Store!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation is now directly telling its users to buy the Xbox version by even providing links to the Xbox store.
  • This move highlights PlayStation’s multiplatform shift, signaling the end of console wars.
  • Many Xbox exclusives were launched on PlayStation, and PlayStation now plans to follow suit.

Xbox’s initial push towards a multiplatform approach was seen as highly controversial by the wider console community, but slowly, PlayStation has started to walk the same path. Now, Sony is set to launch PC ports 6 months after release moving forward, for example.

However, Sony has now gone as far as to tell its users to buy its games on Xbox in an attempt to promote its multiplatform strategy. The PlayStation page for Helldivers 2 is now asking players to buy the game on Xbox, surprising many users who were caught off guard.

Why it matters: Despite Sony’s more conservative take on the multiplatform approach, many recent decisions suggest that the company is going all-in like Xbox to spread its exclusive portfolio on other platforms.

The official PlayStation page now asks you to buy Helldivers 2 on Xbox.

One of the major reasons many users are upset is that PlayStation is even providing a link to the official Xbox store for Helldivers 2 on its PlayStation page. This heavy multiplatform push also nails the fact that console wars are truly over as we knew them.

Both Xbox and PlayStation are now promoting each other to gain a wider audience instead of earning loyalty from a smaller core player base.

Sony has been outwardly more reserved towards a multiplatform strategy to appease fans in the past, but it may be letting go of that approach over time.

Xbox Multiplatform
Many Xbox exclusives have also already arrived on PlayStation in the last few years.

This development also suggests we will see a similar approach for many of Sony’s other games that eventually start making their way to other platforms like Xbox.

Do you think PlayStation’s direct promotion of its games for Xbox suggests a complete shift in tone towards its multiplatform approach? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
