- The Intel-Nvidia partnership, previously thought to be focused on gaming, turns out to be for AI servers.
- The shift to x86 solutions for AI is expected to diminish ARM.
- As such, analysts expect a mid-to-high single-digit decline for PC market share in 2026.
While it was already expected that the gaming industry would experience a steep decline this year due to rising memory costs that will take a massive hit on hardware sales, things are now looking to be worse than expected for PC gaming in particular.
The previous Nvidia-Intel partnership has now been revealed as an alliance focused on AI servers rather than gaming. To top it off, the analyst also expects a steep 7-9% decline in the PC market share going into 2026.
Why it matters: The AI focus has left the PC gaming market to be neglected, and manufacturers are now losing interest and shifting their focus away from making hardware for gamers. It’s truly disappointing to see the current state of the industry.
Full Nerd Network on YouTube recently interviewed Dr. Ian Cutress, a technology industry analyst from TechSpot, and, of course, asked him for his thoughts and expectations for the industry in the coming months.
Dr. Ian didn’t have much to be optimistic about, as he expected a “mid-to-high single-digit decrease” in PC market share in 2026. Obviously, the main reason for this decline is a shortage of memory, which, in turn, has raised prices for nearly all PC components.
However, the most interesting part of this conversation was Dr. Ian’s realization that the Nvidia-Intel alliance (Nvidia invested $5 billion in Intel), previously thought to be a gaming collaboration, is now focused on AI servers.

Regarding the reasons behind their thoughts, the analyst further explained that the AI market has greater potential than the PC gaming market. However, he still didn’t rule out the possibility of a gaming collaboration later down the line.
Customers also want x86 solutions, and by pursuing that, Intel and Nvidia will focus on that segment and take market share from ARM. So instead of AMD, ARM might be in trouble.
