- Nioh 3 has already sold over 1 million copies worldwide.
- The sequel has pushed the Nioh franchise’s total sales to more than 10 million copies.
- Furthermore, the game hasn’t launched on Xbox Series consoles yet, with a port set to release after 6 months due to Nioh 3’s PS5 exclusivity.
Team Ninja has further cemented its position as a true pioneer of action RPGs with Nioh 3. The third title in the franchise has been met with acclaim from critics and fans alike, earning a 94% approval rating on OpenCritic, with praise specifically for its mechanically dense action.
As it turns out, Nioh 3 isn’t doing too badly on the commercial front either, breaking the franchise record for concurrent players on Steam and now selling 1 million copies in just two weeks.
Why it matters: A gruelling, difficult action game like Nioh 3, inspired by titles like Lies of P, achieving this sort of commercial success in the current gaming environment is brilliant to see.

Publisher Koei Tecmo announced on X that Nioh 3 has already sold more than 1 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling title in the series. Furthermore, the push from the sequel has also increased the Nioh IP’s total sales to more than 10 million copies worldwide.
To put Nioh 3’s performance into context, its predecessor took more than a year to sell 2 million copies, suggesting the 2026 title is on track to deliver a better commercial outcome.
Moreover, the action RPG has launched only on PS5 and PC so far, with an Xbox port set to release after 6 months due to Nioh 3’s console exclusivity. Hence, these numbers will only increase when the title lands on other platforms.

Nioh 3 has also performed drastically better than Team Ninja’s previous title, Ninja Gaiden 4, which has not reached 1 million in sales 4 months after launch.
Do you think Nioh 3 deserves this success? Is it the best title in the series, or can Team Ninja improve even further with a sequel? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
