Metroid Prime 4, Silksong, And Other Titles Still Planned For Switch1!

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo plans to keep releasing games for the Switch 1 even after the sequel’s launch.
  • The company reveals that the player base for the Switch 1 amounts to 100 million users globally.
  • Major releases like Metroid Prime 4, Hades 2, and more are still planned for the original Switch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is just weeks away from launch. This time around, though, the handheld comes with a significantly higher price tag, thanks to its biggest hardware leap yet, allowing it to run AAA games more smoothly.

But there’s good news for players who aren’t ready to upgrade just yet. Nintendo has announced it will continue supporting the original Switch console.

Why it matters: Even if players are eager to get their hands on the Switch 2, the overwhelming demand might make it tough to find one at launch. This is great news for such a player base, ensuring they don’t feel left out.

Nintendo Forecasts 15 Million Sales For The Switch 1 During Launch Window

Going forward, we will continue to bring out new titles for the over 100 million people worldwide who are playing Nintendo Switch – Nintendo

Nintendo recently published its report for the fiscal year ending in March 2025. The company revealed that it will continue catering to 100 million Switch users worldwide.

Major releases like Metroid Prime 4, Hades 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are still scheduled to be released on Switch 1

Still, it’s unknown how long Nintendo plans to keep releasing games for the original Switch. The hardware has already started to show its age in the latest releases, so one shouldn’t expect support for more than 2 years.

Moreover, the same report revealed sales for the original Switch, which have surpassed 152.9 million units, which is just 2.1 million away from beating PS2’s record of the highest-selling console to date.

As such, it makes sense for Nintendo to continue supporting the most used console globally. The company expects an additional 4.5 million sales for the original Switch and a further 105 million game sales, twice the number expected for Switch 2.
