GTA 6 Delayed To Avoid Crunch At Final Development Stages Since The 2025 Release Window Didn’t Seem ‘Real’

"Too Much Work, Not Enough Time"

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 has been delayed to May 2026.
  • Management at Rockstar never believed in a fall 2025 release window from the start.
  • The delay was a desire from their end to avoid brutal crunch time.

With mere months away from launch, fans were expecting new gameplay details on GTA 6, but Rockstar had other plans. Unsurprisingly, the game was delayed, but nobody expected a pushback to May 2026, almost eight months later than its initial launch date.

Meanwhile, the development team wasn’t confident in a 2025 release from the start. In fact, the delay was their desire to avoid a brutal time crunch.

Why it matters: Being the most anticipated video game release ever, GTA 6 will potentially be on a scale never seen before. As such, Rockstar Games will take its sweet time in order to prepare for fans’ expectations.

Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time now. Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch. GTA VI slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier recently took to social media to discuss GTA 6’s delay. According to him, Rockstar’s management didn’t believe in a Fall 2025 release from the very beginning

According to the reporter, management had too much work and too little time to deliver. As such, the management requested the delay, and as Rockstar mentions in their message, it would be to deliver the level and quality fans deserve.

GTA 6 May Set A New Precedent For Game Prices

That said, more information on the game is expected to arrive soon. Contrary to reports earlier that the game will receive a short marketing window, Rockstar Games may have to change their plans and showcase tidbits of GTA 6 to please fans, since the delay has caused a lot of disappointment.

Still, if GTA 6 needs a delay, it would be for the better since Rockstar’s track record has shown that they have never compromised on quality, and the next entry in the GTA series is also set to be the biggest in gaming.
