Resident Evil 9 Requiem was recently announced during the Summer Game Fest, and fans are already looking forward to it. Following the announcement, many old titles in the franchise have seen surges in popularity, further suggesting that the hype is real for the Requiem.
While many were expecting Leon to be the main protagonist of the title, which a reliable leaker has also claimed, the director of Resident Evil 9 confirms that Grace Ashcroft will be the main character in Resident Evil Requiem.
Why it matters: Although the franchise typically features familiar faces in the title, recent reports suggest that the developers aim to make the latest release a revolutionary one in the franchise, thereby introducing new characters.
Neon Slice reported in his latest YouTube video that the Resident Evil director has confirmed, in a private message to platinum ambassadors, that Grace Ashcroft will be the main protagonist.
Since the original video is only available in Japanese, the YouTuber asked someone fluent in the language to translate it. It has also been claimed that this will mark one of the most significant shifts for the series, as the franchise usually features similar faces.
However, this won’t be the first time the title introduces a new protagonist, as titles like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard have also introduced new characters to the series before.
The director has also stated that Resident Evil 9 Requiem is going to be his best work yet, and he expects the title to surpass every other title in the franchise he directed. However, he didn’t mention anything about Leon Kennedy in his video.
Therefore, it remains a mystery for fans whether Leon Kennedy will be part of the next game in the franchise. However, one thing is for sure: Grace Ashcroft will be the centre of the title.
