eBay RAM Scalpers Push Prices Higher, With Some DDR5 Kits Selling for Nearly 9X Their Pre-Inflated MSRP

Some Kits Are Being Sold At $2335!

Story Highlight
  • RAM is now being scalped on eBay for absurd prices following an already inflated price.
  • One 32GB DDR5 kit is priced 9 times more than its launch price.
  • An even tighter supply and higher prices are expected starting next year.

The AI surge has heavily affected the electronics market, and while GPUs were initially on the receiving end, the focus has now shifted to DRAM, significantly driving RAM and storage prices that were previously considered relatively cheaper.

Specifically, RAM prices have soared so much that they’re rising faster than the rate of gold. If the inflated prices weren’t enough, some kits are now being scalped on eBay for nearly 9X their initial MSRP compared to prices before the surge.

Why it matters: Building a new computer has become increasingly difficult in this era, where economic and artificial inflation have driven component prices out of most people’s reach. Going forward, things are only expected to get worse for the PC market.

The Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5‑6000 C30 32GB (2×16GB), which was initially launched at an MSRP of $117.99 in 2023, is being sold at $429.99 at retail nowadays, following the inflated price, but one eBay listing is selling the kit for a whopping $1,054.14.

Similarly, the 96GB kit (2×48GB), which launched at $479.99, is now being retailed for $999. However, scalpers at eBay have it listed at an even higher price of a whopping $2660.

If you were to think that these scalped kits aren’t being sold, then you’re wrong. Just last week, someone paid $1347 for 96GB of G.Skill DDR5 RAM.

With such high prices, RAM kits are now being literally stolen from couriers. Furthermore, with AI companies raking in all the DRAM orders, Crucial, one of the biggest players, has decided to exit the consumer market, and Micron will now focus on selling to large and AI companies instead.

Going into 2026 and even further, expect even tighter supply for RAM and other PC components, too. If you’re planning whether to upgrade or build a new system, now may be the best time to buy.
