- EA was fixated on a Fall 2025 release for Battlefield 6, even if it meant competing with GTA 6.
- They were pretty confident in their work and investment that they didn’t want to doubt themselves and keep working for a Fall release.
- GTA 6 is set to sell 85 million copies in just 2 months, which would put the figures near the sales of all Battlefield games at 88 million units sold.
Set to be the biggest video game release ever, GTA 6 seems to be a monstrosity that not even the most prominent publishers like Kojima Productions would want to go against.
That said, there are always exceptions, and in this case, it’s EA. Before finalising a May 2026 release, GTA 6 was set for a Fall 2025 release, the same timeframe as the upcoming Battlefield 6.
Still, EA was ready and more than prepared to go against GTA 6, as Battlefield 6’s release for Fall 2025 had already been set firmly in place.
Why it matters: Battlefield 6 has a lot of expectations, and the future of EA is riding on its back, especially after recent failures. They seem to be quite confident in their FPS release, especially if they were ready to compete with GTA 6.
Talking to Variety, EA’s president, Laura Miele, said they were aware of the massive competition they’d face from GTA 6. Still, they wouldn’t be planning to release Battlefield 6 in the same timeframe if they weren’t confident.
We have always have been heads down, unblinking about this fall and executing at a level of excellence
Rather than worrying, they were pretty focused on the development of the game and avoided ‘what if’ scenarios, doubting themselves.
Laura also mentioned the massive investment that went into the game, but a figure wasn’t exactly mentioned. Our previous reports suggest that the development cost for the game has crossed $400 million. EA wants quite a significant return out of it, as executives want the game to reach 100 million players.
Fortunately, GTA 6 was pushed to a May 2026 release. Regardless of how great an entry Battlefield 6 will turn out to be, GTA 6’s side-by-side release would have crushed it in comparison.
Analysts predict 85 million copies sold for GTA 6 in just two months. For just a rough comparison, the entire Battlefield franchise has sold 88 million copies so far.
