2025 has been nothing short of mind-blowing for video game releases, with every month so far having at least one GOTY competition.
June isn’t falling behind featuring Death Stranding 2, one of the biggest releases of this year, debatably. The review scores for the game have been submitted just a few days before its release, and they’re nearly flawless, with an 89 score on Metacritic.
Why it matters: Each of Kojima’s projects transcends his earlier ones, and Death Stranding 2 follows suit, surpassing expectations.
Here are some of the scores Death Stranding 2 has received from major media outlets:
Dexerto 10/10
Screenrant 10/10
VGC 5/5
WellPlayed 10/10
PlayStation Lifestyle 10/10
CGMagazin 9/10
Eurogamer 4/5
Building upon the same principles of a walking simulator, Death Stranding 2 doesn’t hesitate to take a few steps above and beyond. The first few hours of the game are set in Mexico, with the rest of the game taking place in Australia. Death Stranding 2’s visuals are beyond impressive, and Sony’s Decima Engine truly shines here.
The stealth-inclined gameplay now has a variety of options on how to approach the game, with the addition of a sky-drone similar to the eagles in the Assassin’s Creed RPG trilogy.
Players also have the choice to go guns blazing if they prefer to, and there’s plenty of fun in that. The weapon and gadget arsenal is vast, and players can level up skills accordingly to their preferred playstyle.

To add to this more refined gameplay, the plot complements it all. Death Stranding 2 features an even wider array of some of the biggest cast in a video game, comprising top-A celebrities such as Troy Baker, Elle Fanning, Debra Wilson, Norman Reedus as the main lead, and tons of other surprises.
A journey of emotion filled with cinema-level sequences by some of the best voice acting and performances ever, Death Stranding 2 will not fail to disappoint even once in its 35+ hour campaign.
