Call of Duty Holds 2nd Place on Xbox and PlayStation, While Battlefield 6 Lags Behind in 6th and 7th

"Call Of Duty Is Too Big To Die"

Story Highlight
  • Call of Duty ranks second place across Xbox and PlayStation, while Battlefield 6 is nearly five places behind.
  • Black Ops 7 is yet to launch, and these stats are for the week ending on October 18th.
  • RedSec, the free Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6, will drive the game’s player count much higher.

With EA back to form with the release of Battlefield 6 this year, Call of Duty is finally forced to a back-foot stance. Even industry veterans have crowned Battlefield 6 the biggest FPS of this year, with former Blizzard boss saying that the game will ‘boot stomp‘ rival Call of Duty.

However, Activision has repeatedly dismissed this threat, saying that Call of Duty is too big to die, and turns out they were entirely on point. Call of Duty was the second-most-played game across Xbox and PlayStation, while Battlefield 6 held 6th and 7th place on both consoles.

Why it matters: Even though Battlefield 6 is one of the series’ best entries, the franchise has had a rough past few years, and to become the best FPS on the market, it still needs to be consistent enough to draw all players from Call of Duty.

Circana’s List Of Most Played Games (US Only)

Circana shared a list of the most-played games across Xbox and PlayStation for the week ending on 18th October. Without a surprise, Fortnite dominated the list across both consoles, while Call of Duty was at number 2 and Battlefield 6 at 6th and 7th places.

This week was right after Battlefield 6 released, and for a fair comparison, Black Ops 7 has yet to be launched. Also, Call of Duty is at its lowest point yet, with player counts declining across Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

RedSec Launches October 28th

However, the Battlefield 6 player count will increase in the coming days with the release of the free Battle Royale mode. With RedSec, perhaps Battlefield 6 can overtake Call of Duty since the release of Black Ops 7 is unlikely to turn things around for the franchise, which is in such a rough state.
