- Borderlands 4 got a new gameplay trailer at the PlayStation State of Play.
- The game will be released on September 23rd, later this year.
- More details will be revealed in a future State of Play, fully focused on Borderlands 4.
The PlayStation State of Play has started off with a strong foot. A new gameplay trailer for Borderlands 4 was revealed, along with a release date of September 23rd later this year.
Why It Matters: Since its reveal at the TGA Awards last year, fans have patiently waited for Borderlands 4’s release date. While the game was confirmed to launch during Fall 2025, a proper release date may be relieving for fans.
The short trailer, lasting just over a minute, previewed some intense shooting in typical Borderlands style. It showcased new action skills, movement abilities, and unique weapons that will shake up the series’ redundant formula.
More details on the game are expected in a future State of Play in spring, focused especially on Borderlands 4.

Previously, it was reported that Borderlands 4 will be built on Unreal Engine 5, a potential cause of worry given the engine’s notorious reputation. This is even more concerning considering that the franchise’s future lies with Borderlands 4 coming with the disappointing failure of the live-action project.
Set to be Gearbox Studio’s most ambitious Borderlands release from the whole franchise, the title has high hopes and expectations to rival other Take-Two heavy hitters, namely GTA 6 and Mafia Reboot, releasing within the same time frame.
