Borderlands 4 Is Performing Poorly On Consoles Due To Memory Leak Issues!

Story Highlight
  • Besides PC, Borderlands 4 is also suffering from notable performance issues and major bugs on consoles.
  • The game gets huge lag spikes for some players on PS5, hitting as low as 1 FPS randomly during gameplay.
  • Memory leak is the likely cause behind the issues, making the FPS run worse the longer you play it.

Even before release, many signs suggested that Borderlands 4 would launch with a plethora of performance issues. The sentiment was reflected in PC reviews by users and critics, with many users reporting frame rate dips and other notable bugs.

However, performance issues are also hurting console players, affirming that Borderlands 4 ports built for specific hardware cannot run as well as expected. Many of these gamers are experiencing massive lag spikes, sometimes hitting as low as 1 FPS during gameplay.

Why it matters: Console Borderlands 4 players experiencing game-breaking issues during gameplay is quite concerning, making the FPS nearly unplayable because of memory leaks.

For instance, the user ‘That_Wet_Banana69’ reports on Reddit that engaging with multiple enemies in various parts of the game causes extreme lag spikes on PS5, making Borderlands 4 unplayable for them entirely.

The biggest culprit is expected to be memory leaks affecting users across Xbox, PS5, and even PS5 Pro consoles. While restarting the game after playing for 30-40 minutes somewhat fixes the performance for many, the workaround is no longer working for the Redditor.

There is some awful memory leak on PS5 that they gotta fix.

Another user predicts that Harlowe’s skills are causing a runaway effect of infinite status procs that are tanking performance. The video also shows FPS drops as soon as the skills are used, so the build just might be too wild for Borderlands 4 to handle on PS5.

The memory leak is on Xbox as well.

Borderlands 4 is a huge improvement over the last game in terms of gameplay.

Regardless, many users have shared their own frustrations with Borderlands 4 running poorly on PS5 and Xbox consoles. So, the frame rates dropping to single digits during gameplay is quite a widespread issue.

You can find more complaints and discussions on the Borderlands 4 subreddit’s bugs, troubleshooting, and performance thread. It’s unclear whether Gearbox is currently working to fix the memory leaks on PS5.

Do you think Gearbox developers will fix the memory leak issues that are plaguing Borderlands 4 on consoles? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
