The Remake Was Rumored To Be In Development For Years Now!

Story Highlight
  • Bioshock 1 Remake was apparently real but got shelved by 2K Games earlier this year.
  • The project’s cancellation likely came as a result of Bioshock 4’s development turmoil.
  • It is speculated that the Bioshock 1 Remake was deep into development and was supposed to be announced soon.

These are challenging times for the Bioshock franchise, especially after recent reports have revealed that the fourth entry has been facing a troublesome development, despite more than a decade of work.

There may be some more unfortunate news for fans of the franchise. The long-rumored Bioshock 1 remake has now been confirmed to be real, but was unfortunately shelved by 2K Games earlier this year, quite possibly due to the production struggles revolving around the fourth entry.

Why it matters: Fans have been demanding a Bioshock 1 remake for years now. Such a remake would be a perfect way to introduce the franchise for newer fans while 2K Games works on the next iteration, which is still years away.

According to Bloomberg, their sources confirm that Bioshock 4 was canceled earlier this year. Rumors of the remake date all the way back to 2021, when a Bioshock RTX Remaster was mentioned in a Nvidia GeForce leak.

Previous reports also suggested that 2K Games was preparing to announce the Remake this year. As such, it is speculated that the title was deep into development, quite possibly even nearing a release.

A cancellation this late only implies that 2K Games meant to cut down budget costs, especially after the poor state Bioshock 4 is in. Still, it’s a shame that the project had to be shelved, given how much fans anticipated it.
