- Arc Raiders developer says it won’t add goofy and out-of-place skins like Call of Duty.
- Instead, the game will stick to cosmetics that best fit its tone.
- Arc Raiders is shaping up to be a terrific release.
Call of Duty, once regarded as an authentic military FPS experience, has been reduced to a shadow of its former self due to Activision’s mistreatment of the IP. In an effort to make the game more appealing, the publisher has collaborated with prominent pop stars and franchises, resulting in some of the most outrageous cosmetics in a video game.
The so-called ‘goofy’ skins do worse than look out of place; they ruin the gameplay experience, too. With Activision setting such a bad precedent for FPS games, no other franchise wants to follow in its footsteps.
Embark Studios, the developer behind Arc Raiders, has also assured fans that it will not add unfitting cosmetics to its game and will continue to adhere to its own theme and tonality.
Why it matters: Activision made it pretty clear long ago that they’ve stopped caring about the Call of Duty games. Hopefully, with the entire industry and fans rebelling against Activision’s approach, they’ll get a wake-up call.

In an interview with PCGamesN, Embark Studios talked about their approach to in-game cosmetics for Arc Raiders:
I think it was said a little while ago in a meeting we would never, say, make a Santa Claus outfit, but we may make something that is of our own tone and our own aesthetic that evokes a Santa Claus.
Now, to say that Arc Raiders would add a Santa Claus skin, it would only be possible if it matches the visual identity and tone of the game. Therefore, expect nothing similar to Call of Duty, which features skins for Nicki Minaj, Stan Smith from American Dad, and the list goes on.

Battlefield 6 has also made it pretty clear that the Call of Duty approach isn’t possible for them and even dropped a live-action trailer right before the game’s launch, throwing shade at the rival franchise.
Still, after all this, Activision isn’t ready to part ways with such practices. Black Ops 7 releases soon and will launch with ‘goofy’ skins despite Treyarch promising such won’t be the case.
