- Analyst says that Arc Raiders only took 3 years and $75 million to make.
- This budget includes marketing costs as well.
- Only 70 people worked on the project and yet, the game has outsold big players like Battlefield 6 etc.
Arc Raiders is one of the highest-rated multiplayer games in nearly a decade, and despite being a live-service extraction shooter, it’s loved by fans. In fact, the game has managed to retain more than 80% of its player base since launch, which is an impressive feat.
Surprisingly, Embark Studios managed to achieve all this with a development budget of just $75 million, which is pretty low compared to other siblings in the live-service genre. Moreover, the game only took 3 years to develop.
Why it matters: Publishers nowadays are throwing in hundreds of millions into the development of live-service, whereas Arc Raiders has managed to achieve everything fans wanted from a multiplayer game in a fraction of a AAA game’s budget.
In the latest video of Pachter Factor with Michael Pachter, the industry analyst shared his thoughts on the current landscape of the gaming industry and touched on the topic of Arc Raiders, stating:
Arc Raiders cost 75 million to make. 3 years. A team of 70, and that includes marketing.
The analyst further states that the game has already made $500 million and will continue to make more money with earnings estimated to reach $1 billion.
It’s impressive what Embark was able to achieve with these limited resources, when you compare it to something like Battlefield 6, which reportedly cost $400 million to make. Moreover, most titles nowadays take nearly 5 years to develop, whereas Arc Raiders took about half that time.

Comparing those titles, EA’s FPS has already sunk in player count while Arc Raiders continues boasting impressive numbers, averaging 300k players a day. Moreover, the game has already sold 12 million copies in just 2 months of its release.
If the momentum continues, the game may even surpass Fortnite, at least that’s what Shroud believes. While the extraction shooter may not be able to touch the heights that the Free-to-Play Battle Royale has reached, it could very well be the next big thing.
