Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mod Progressing Smoothly, Completes Most Successful Beta Test Yet

The Multiplayer Cyberpunk 2077 Project May Not Be Too Far!

Story Highlight
  • The CyberMP multiplayer mod for Cyberpunk 2077 has just had the best and most stable closed beta test yet.
  • The mod is making good progress, getting players and vehicles to sync up smoothly across all screens.
  • The project has reached a new level and will receive even more extensive changes in the future.

Since Cyberpunk 2077’s tumultuous launch, it has become CDPR’s biggest revenue earner for five years straight. The IP also successfully expanded into the anime territory, but fans are still bummed out about the studio giving up on the multiplayer mode.

However, an extremely ambitious modding project, CyberMP, is in development by about 10 people. It aims to bring a full-fledged multiplayer experience to the game, including custom servers and lobbies, with activities like socialization, racing, and PvP.

A new development update now reveals that the mod is not only progressing smoothly but also has recently enjoyed the best and most stable closed beta yet.

Why it matters: CyberMP’s success in the latest closed beta test means it may launch sooner than anticipated. An effective multiplayer experience could bring back millions of new and veteran players to the game.

As explained by the developers on Discord, the closed beta test succeeded in getting players and vehicles to sync up seamlessly across all screens after an extensive rework for both systems. The overall vehicle experience also feels much smoother now.

we can confidently say this was the most stable and successful test in the project’s history.

Only a handful of game client crashes were recorded, fewer than the team expected. Many gameplay bugs have also already been squashed. The development progress is reaching a ‘new level,’ and more major changes are planned for the future.

Unfortunately, the team confirms there are no plans for co-op. There won’t be any quest synchronization across all players, so the campaign experience will remain single-player despite the multiplayer mod.

While there’s no launch date yet, all the indicators suggest that we may get a window in the near future. If successful, the mod could prove to be Cyberpunk 2077’s equivalent of GTA Online.

At the least, it will satiate the urge fans have for a multiplayer Cyberpunk experience.
