- The Witcher season 4 has had a 51% decline in viewers compared to season 3.
- Only 7.6 million viewers tuned in to the show during the first four days, compared to the 15 million who tuned in when season 3 debuted.
- Showrunners have hinted that season 5 will be the show’s end.
Despite all of its good fortune in the gaming industry, The Witcher has struggled to put a solid foot down in Hollywood. The franchise’s Netflix adaptation has been hit and miss so far, failing to make the same industry-wide impact that the video games had.
The show’s main lead, Henry Cavill, left after the third season due to disputes about the writing. And his replacement hasn’t done too well so far, as the Netflix series has lost most of its viewers.
Why it matters: The Witcher has been treated horribly by Netflix, and the writing team has failed to make a decent adaptation with unlimited money.

The Witcher season 4’s viewership declined by 51% in season 4 following Henry Cavill’s removal from the show. According to official numbers provided by Netflix, 7.4 million viewers watched in the first four days of streaming.
Here’s how season 4 compares with previous seasons:
- The Witcher Season 2: 18.8 million views
- The Witcher Season 3 (Part 1): 15.92 million views
- The Witcher Season 4: 7.4 million views
Considering how the third season debuted with 15.2 million viewers, The Witcher has lost half of its viewers. The show also debuted at No. 2 amongst English-language titles on Netflix, marking the first time the series has debuted at No. 2, after all previous seasons debuted at No. 1.
Hence, from the looks of it, replacing Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth isn’t working out too well for Netflix, and if comments from the showrunners are anything to go by, the next season of The Witcher may be the final one.
It’s definitely disappointing to see such a beloved IP receive a poor adaptation from Netflix, especially given its massive fanbase. However, no matter how much the TV series declines, things are going pretty ok on the gaming side for The Witcher.

The Hype around The Witcher 4 has made CDPR one of the most valuable studios in Europe, and some of the best devs in the industry are working on the sequel. Hence, season 4 may be a bust, but the next game in the series is poised to win the players over.
