Doom: The Dark Ages is currently one of the most anticipated releases in the gaming industry, and it is finally coming out next month.

The developers have been revealing much information about the title, confirming that it will feature the biggest levels in the series. The team has stated that they skipped multiplayer to prioritize a stronger campaign.

Why it matters: While many developers focus on creating live-service titles, it’s great to see id Software opt for a proper single-player experience.

During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Doom boss Hugo Martin discussed how the decision not to add multiplayer to the title was made right from the beginning.

He elaborated on the decision, stating that the team made it early so they could focus on the title’s campaign.

made the decision early to just focus all of our energy on trying to make the best campaign we could.

Hugo further stated that the team couldn’t just add a multiplayer mode to the title, as it would become a live service title, which would, of course, come at the expense of the single-player aspects.

It felt good to just focus [on] Doom as a single-player experience and not try to turn it into a live service game.

Id Software has decided to focus solely on the title’s campaign. Going for multiplayer would have compromised the single-player experience, so it’s great that the team decided long before.

The team also recently confirmed that Doom: The Dark Ages won’t be the last game in the franchise. The team loves making Doom games and will continue to make more.
