- Star Wars Outlaws was the second-highest-earning PC game in September 2024, only behind Black Myth: Wukong.
- The RPG stumbled down to sixth place after being pitted against console games.
- The game failed to meet the sales and players’ expectations, with reports suggesting it ultimately flopped.
We have been eating well this year, with many amazing AAA and AA titles launching throughout the year. However, there have also been many notable flops, some of which were expected to perform much better.
Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws is no exception, as the AAA RPG did not satisfy player and sales expectations due to many story and gameplay mishaps.
However, a detailed report reveals the game generated considerable revenue amid other more successful releases. Star Wars Outlaws was the second highest-earning PC game in September 2024, surpassed only by Black Myth: Wukong.
Why it matters: The new report implying that Star Wars Outlaws had a relatively decent revenue further proves that it might have done well if it sold more copies and satisfied the players.
Newzoo’s recent report clarifies that Star Wars Outlaws ranked second place by total revenue across PC games in September 2024. This position is quickly jeopardized, as the RPG slips to the sixth spot if console entries are also considered.
About 69% of the revenue was earned on PC, with PlayStation hogging 18% and Xbox securing the rest. An average daily playtime session lasted approximately 2.7 hours, and the number stood at 8.4 sessions per average in September.
Regardless, even Ubisoft eventually acknowledged that Star Wars Outlaws failed to meet sales goals, with current rumored sales suggesting the studio ultimately failed to recoup the project’s costs.
The game is also rarely played by players on PC, with active users barely reaching 2000 on a daily basis. A report even claims that Ubisoft has asked Steam to hide the player count.
