- Recent reports suggest that buying Stalker 2 in Russia could land the players in jail.
- The game will be made illegal in Russia if any justification of terrorism or incitement of ethnic hatred is discovered.
- More information will likely be revealed by Russian authorities in the future.
Stalker 2 is one of the most anticipated post-apocalyptic games of recent times after being in development for years on end. It’s no surprise that gamers worldwide hope to get their hands on one of the most promising games of 2024. However, that might not be possible for everyone, as Russia wants to charge Stalker 2 players with criminal offenses in the country.
A new string of reports suggests that gamers who purchase Stalker 2 in Russia could end up landing in jail cells. A warning has been issued by Russian authorities ahead of the game’s awaited launch.
Why it matters: Russian authorities could charge Stalker 2 players with criminal offenses, landing them long jail times. That is if the game is banned in the country after any illegal content, such as extremism and justification of terrorism, is discovered.
As initially reported by RBC-Ukraine News, the horror survival game could be banned in the country if any illegal content is discovered upon launch. So, any instances of extremism or propaganda against Russia might result in the game getting sacked.
There could be the most severe measures if illegal content is found in the game upon release, such as extremism, justification of terrorism, or incitement of ethnic hatred.

Players who try to circumvent the potential ban and still try getting Stalker 2 could then face several criminal charges, landing in jail for a long time.
All in all, it is worth noting that Russian authorities have not yet banned Stalker 2 in the country. So, do take the ongoing rumors with a grain of salt.
