More User Testing & Internal Evaluation Needed!

Story Highlight
  • Concord became the biggest failure ever in the gaming industry.
  • The CEO says that the game was flawed due to a lack of internal evaluation.
  • As per a report, Redfall also met with a similar fate of less internal evaluation from the team.

While PlayStation has a vast portfolio of successful franchises, like God of War and Last of Us, the company’s recent title, Concord, raised questions about its decisions.

Although many statements have been made regarding Concord’s failure, the latest one from the Sony CEO seems more reasonable.

According to a new report, Hiroki Sony’s CEO says Concord failed because the team did not provide enough internal evaluation.

Why It Matters: It was reported that no one was allowed to say anything negative regarding the game, so it makes sense why there was a lack of internal evaluation.

Many massive AAA releases have flopped in the last decade.

Concord was thought to be an ambitious PlayStation title, and the company expected a successful result. However, things went terribly wrong, and the game became an example of the worst failure.

So, during the live stream discussion, the CEO described the main reason behind Concord’s failure, suggesting that the lack of internal evaluation caused a product that didn’t resonate well with the audience.

“So for us, for our reflection, we probably need to have a lot of gates, including user testing or internal evaluation, and the timing of such gates.

To avoid those mistakes in the future, the CEO has planned a proper strategy as there will be more checks and gates for the products to figure out what users will like and then continue working on that part.

With the right information about a product, the team will make a more sound decision about where to proceed.
