After being rumored for a long time, the new 4K capable Xbox from the Microsoft, codenamed as Project Scorpio was officially confirmed by the company lately during its E3 2016 press conference. Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed the new console with specifications and termed it as the ‘most powerful console ever built‘.

Microsoft after realizing the change in gaming by the means of 4K output and the new virtual technology decided to launch a new high-end gaming console that will enable the support for both. The new console will be equipped with AMD’s Zen APU having 8 cores and Polaris architecture based GPU with 6 teraflops and 320GB/s of memory bandwidth.

During his recent interview with the Eurogamer, the Xbox chief Phil Spencer clarified that the new high-end console will require a television supported with 4K output otherwise the gamers should not buy the Xbox Scorpio as it will deliver ‘true 4K gaming and high fidelity VR‘ experience. The new Xbox console from Microsoft will be the successor of Xbox One S, which was also announced by the company during E3.

As per the chief, the Scorpio’s main purpose is to deliver 4K gaming experience and for which, a 4K supported television will be required else it will be of no use and also, a 1080p supported television will not bring any change. He said;

“You should buy [an Xbox One S], because Scorpio is not going to do anything for you. Scorpio is designed as a 4K console, and if you don’t have a 4K TV, the benefit we’ve designed for, you’re not going to see.

Clearly, you can buy Scorpio, and if and when you decide you want to buy a 4K television to take advantage of the increased performance, obviously the console will be ready for you. For us in the industry, it’s easy to think that most power is always the thing that wins. If you look at last gen, what won? The Wii won. The Wii sold more than we did on Xbox 360 and the PS3, and it wasn’t the most powerful console out there. Price is critically important. Wii was a good price and it had a great experience.

Scorpio is for the person who’s got a 4K television, who’s really focused on 4K gaming. It’s going to be a premium price over what we’re selling this one for, and both of them will exist in the market at the same time. Scorpio is for your 4K gamer. And that’s what we designed it for.”

Phil Spencer also clarified that the gamers must focus on getting a television with 4K output as only with that, you will get to know the main function of their new hardware. 1080p televisions won’t do anything better with the console that run games at 4K resolution. The new console from Microsoft is planned for launch during holidays next year.
