The Xbox brand has been under heavy scrutiny after its recent ad, which seemingly dubbed everything to be an Xbox. While some thought the marketing tactic was funny, others claimed it did not make much sense. However, no one expected a senior Xbox employee to dub a PS5 Pro ‘An Xbox.’
The Xbox Social Media Manager Josh Stein has come under fire for calling PS5 Pro an Xbox in light of the controversial ad campaign. Some Twitter users are enraged at him for hurting the sentiments of the Xbox community.
Why it matters: Xbox is no longer limited to its console ecosystem, expanding much further beyond the hardware.
While replying to The Game Awards show host Geoff Keighley on Twitter, Josh clarified that his playful jab was not meant to be taken seriously. Some Twitter users found the joke directed at Sony to be quite funny, while others were upset by it. One user said:
You should sometimes look at how with those ‘memes’ you hurt the feelings of loyal Xbox console users who have been uncertain and worried for some time.
A bunch of commenters even playfully remarked that it was too soon to make this joke and it’s better to delete it. Regardless, Josh advised the triggered users not to take everything on Twitter seriously and move on.
Much of the backlash has become quite toxic at the time of writing, which is never good for anyone involved. It is best to take the statement with a light heart since the social media manager had no ill intentions.
