The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is the world’s largest pure contract manufacturer of Chips also including graphics processors for AMD and Nvidia. In the third or fourth quarter they will run their factories at full capacity while the transition to 20nm technology production will be accelerated.
TSMC increases production of 20nm – Aiming for 10nm in 2016
According to the trade magazine Digitimes TSMC is expected, that in upcoming quarter the production of circuits in 20nm will be increased, which will lead towards the end of the year with 20 percent increment in revenues and up from 10 percent in the current production quarter. However, it is still not clear whether this also includes the kind of high-performance circuits used for GPUs.
While it appears that TSMC already count 20 customers for the transition of 16nm FinFET, which is scheduled for 2015. Additionally, semiconductor giant also plan to create a particular development group with 300-400 techniques to develop process technology for 10nm also, this test production will be started in 2015.
