After the surprise of Microsoft at E3 2015 that Xbox One will support the backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360 games through future software upgrades, all eyes turned to the press conference of Sony expecting for an announcement of the same flavor, but they announced it that this day will never come.
The PlayStation 4 will never have Backward Compatibility
Regarding the Xbox One’s decision to implement backwards compatibility, Ryan said, “It is an entirely legitimate approach, and if you are seeking to upgrade 360 owners to Xbox One, it is a very logical approach to take.” However, he further added that with regards to how the feature will work, “I suspect there might be a few twists in that particular tale. But we will see”.
Regarding Sony, they said that because the PlayStation 3 (the first model) allowed backward compatibility with PlayStation 2 games indicating that it is a very requested feature, but actually not used as much .
“On balance, we are happy with our approach and we don’t wish to be defensive about it at all. But as I say, both approaches are legitimate.”
Unfortunately, there are not enough software engineers in the world for everyone to do everything. Each owner of the platform has to make decisions, we have done one thing and others have done it. Your choice is entirely legitimate, and I think Sony choice is legitimate too. In a way, it’s good to have different views between the two platforms, and the people decide which of these views convinces them more.
