Fortnite was released for the Nintendo Switch console and those players who owned PS4 and the Switch reported that they are unable to use their PS4 account on the handheld console because Sony blocked the feature with Nintendo Switch.

As a result, players couldn’t use their account to transfer their progress and in-game skins and also couldn’t play against the Nintendo Switch players due to the ban. Soon after this fiasco, Sony received a huge backlash from the gaming community as well as its own PS4 gamers as cross-play between all the platforms is something we all ever wanted and the company has tried to block the feature against Microsoft’s Xbox One in the past and this time, they did the same with the Switch.

The company didn’t made any strong points to support its ban, however, today during the Gamelab conference in Spain the CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment America Shawn Layden had something to say to the Eurogamer regarding the cross-play issue which shows a positive sign for all of us.

He said that the company is looking for the possibilities after listening to the fans’ feedback and they are confident that they will find a solution which will be suitable for the gamers as well as the company. Here’s what he said;

“We’re hearing it. We’re looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.”

Its a positive sign that the company has started to realize the new trends emerging in the industry and this is something beyond the industry competition against the rivals, i.e, Microsoft and Nintendo.

With FIFA 19 around the corner, lets see what will be the solution they will come up with as it is one most fan requested game for the cross-platform play feature. Stay tuned for more updates!
