Reports started building up regarding the development of a new PlayStation hardware named as PlayStation 4.5 by Sony, with 4K resolution support enabled.

Sony is Reportedly Working on New PlayStation 4.5 for 4K Gaming

Lately, famous gaming site Kotaku reported that its sources has confirmed that the Japanese tech giant Sony is currently working on a new gaming console i.e, PlayStation 4.5 which will have more upgraded graphics for supporting games at higher resolutions, mainly 4K, which is 4 times more than the current 1080p.

Besides 4K support, it will also be very helpful for the upcoming PlayStation VR. The current hardware of the PlayStation 4 seems to be getting old as compared with the hardware required for 4K and virtual-reality gaming. Sony’s PlayStation 4 will be 3 years old this year. Console developers are realizing the need for upgrade and maybe that’s why Microsoft also indicated that its Xbox One will be getting ‘hardware upgrades’.

If it is truly happening, it will give Sony and edge in competing against Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, VR headsets designed for PCs. Although the current PlayStation 4 can display 4K images and videos, but is not capable of playing games at 4K resolution.

Kotaku tried to contact the representatives at Sony regarding the matter through e-mail but one spokesperson said, “We can’t comment on rumors or speculation”

Let’s wait and hear from the company officially. If they have such plans, then we will hear about it anytime soon this year. Stay tuned till then!
