The team behind the RPCS3 announced the launch of a new update of its PS3 emulator for PC, which improves the performance of some of the best games on the PC platform, such as Uncharted 2, God of War 3, or Metal Gear Solid 4, which now enjoy greater fluidity and stability in the frames.

Going into more details, kd-11 rewrote the implementation of ZCULL (z-culling) in the RPCS3 to improve programming efficiency. As the team noted, this resulted in a large increase in performance in many titles. kd-11 also added a new setting to the advanced settings tab called “Relaxed ZCULL Sync”. This new option changes the way z-culling works (removing certain objects from the screen that should not be rendered).

When the Relaxed ZCULL Sync is active, games like Red Dead Redemption and WipEout work slightly better. On the other hand, Metal Gear Solid 4 works much better with this active option.

Thanks to these performance improvements, the WipEout is now fully playable (4K @ 50/60 FPS with a Ryzen 7 2700X), as some stability improvements were also added. Thanks to all these improvements, PC users can enjoy these PlayStation 3 exclusive games at a higher refresh rate or with higher resolutions. The new version is now available on the official website.
