One user named as “OLEK” on the reddit forums managed to find the option of Microsoft’s latest API, the DirectX 12 on the game launcher of Rise of the Tomb Raider while he was messing with game files in the directory.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: DirectX 12 Option Spotted
He also posted some of the pictures as the reference for backing his claims. The pictures can be viewed below;
It must be noted that the DX12 option doesn’t works at the moment. Enabling the option closes the game’s launcher. He said in his post that,
“Monitor” launches the game and it stops working after the developer startup screen.
“Exclusive Fullscreen” opens the setup menu.
“Display” opens the official website page for the game.
“Graphics” opens the official Tomb Raider facebook page.
“Options” opens the official Tomb Raider youtube page.
“Stereoscopic 3D” opens the Square Enix support page.
“Enable DirectX 12” closes the launcher.
EDIT: DX12 files in the game directory (since v1.0 version): http://puu.sh/mZrU1/9c84eaa7f0.png
EDIT2: Forgot to clarify that this was achieved by replacing ROTTR.exe with the original executable from the retail version.
It appears that the option for DX12 will be fully functional after a game update or a patch in coming months. Whereas the option for Nvidia’s TXAA was also noticed on the option bar. It seems that the game might support TXAA anti-aliasing in the future after an update.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was released on November 10th, 2015 for Xbox One and Xbox 360 while on January 28th, 2016 for PC. The game is due for PlayStation 4. Stay tuned for more updates!
