We keep talking about DOOM and graphics cards after the game of ID Software has been updated to support Vulkan API, where AMD Radeon graphics cards have seen boosts in performance markedly to the extent that AMD Radeon R9 Fury X with Vulkan is 25 percent faster than a GeForce GTX 1070 with Vulkan. On the other side if we talk about its performance with OpenGL the R9 Fury X is 15 percent slower than the GTX 1070. The Vulkan API can be seen as the successor to AMD’s Mantle API as it is built on the same DNA.

Vulkan API Increases R9 Fury X FPS Over OpenGL By 52 percent:

In the case of NVIDIA Graphics cards, except the GeForce GTX 970, the GTX 980 Ti and GeForce GTX 1070 managed to improve results with Vulkan API, where in the best case there was a gain of just over 2 FPS. If we compare these performance results with AMD then these results are too low. AMD Radeon RX 480 with Vulkan API is around 6 FPS slower than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

AMD already warned in the past that with the advent of DirectX 12 and Vulkan things are going to change and at least now we can see results. AMD Radeon graphics cards are gaining much performance via software, a clear example is Radeon R9 390, which improved 21.2 FPS going from OpenGL to Vulkan.
